Kevin Durant and the Oklahoma City Thunder saw the NBA Finals completely slip from their grasp on Monday night, dropping Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals to the Golden State Warriors 96-88. Golden State's victory was the culmination of an epic 3-1 series comeback, and showed the world they're still the most dominating force in the NBA.
Durant is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent this summer, and rumors have been swirling about him possibly leaving the Thunder for a new opportunity. Notable teams who have been linked to Durant include the Warriors, San Antonio Spurs, Los Angeles Lakers and Washington Wizards, but Sixers center Joel Embiid wants to make sure Philadelphia can get involved for the Slim Reaper as well.
Well that was a great matchup between GS and OKC..... Had OKC in 6 and they almost had it #Almost— Joel Embiid (@JoelEmbiid) May 31, 2016
Time to RECRUIT KD to the Sixers— Joel Embiid (@JoelEmbiid) May 31, 2016
As you may recall, this isn't the first time Embiid has tried to recruit a superstar to the Sixers. He took to Twitter two summers ago in hopes of luring LeBron James to the City of Brotherly Love. Things did not go as planned.
@KingJames hey bro hope you're having a good day...... Want to join us in philly?? Peace— Joel Embiid (@JoelEmbiid) July 1, 2014
Day 3: still no answers............— Joel Embiid (@JoelEmbiid) July 4, 2014
He probably DM'd me but I dont read my DMs so I'm gonna go ahead and block him pic.twitter.com/PunjHSiQRI— Joel Embiid (@JoelEmbiid) July 4, 2014
And just like, the recruitment is over— Joel Embiid (@JoelEmbiid) July 4, 2014
But like all great athletes, Embiid seems to have amnesia about his recruitment efforts.
We Almost got Lebron 2 years ago— Joel Embiid (@JoelEmbiid) May 31, 2016
Durant to the Sixers is obviously longer than a long shot, but there's a pitch to be made. He's extremely close with Sixers strength coach Todd Wright, and Philadelphia has a solid young core plus a ton cap space to sign other players outside of Durant.
Work your magic, Embiid. You've got nothing to lose.
