The Philadelphia 76ers will waive Ronald Roberts Jr. to make room for Furkan Aldemir, sources have told LibertyBallers. We had reported this morning that Aldemir was free to sign with the Sixers after getting his visa status squared away.
Aldemir was released from his contract with his Turkish club, Galatasaray Liv Hospital, three weeks ago.
Reports indicate that Aldemir, who was scheduled to fly to Philadelphia today, could join the Sixers as early as tomorrow.
Roberts Jr., who played collegiately at St. Joseph's, was just signed by the Sixers on Friday, and had not appeared in a game for the team. He was previously playing for the Sixers D-League affiliate, the Delaware 87ers, where he averaged 17.5 points and 11.8 rebounds in 8 games for them. If Ronald Roberts Jr. signs another contract with the D-League, the Sevens will retain his rights.
In related news, reports from Marc Stein of ESPN indicate that Aldemir will get a 4 year contract worth $12 million. The first two seasons will be guaranteed, with the last two non-guaranteed.
