Star guard Trae Young is out with an illness for the Atlanta Hawks when they take on the Sixers Friday.
He popped up as questionable on the injury report early this morning, but apparently did not even make the trip to Philly with the team:
Trae Young did not travel with the team for tonight’s game. So the team ruled him out (illness) for the game against 76ers in Philly https://t.co/izTKg8Egzw— Lauren L. Williams (@WilliamsLaurenL) December 8, 2023
The two-time All-Star is the heliocentric hub of the Hawks’ offense. He’s averaging 27.2 points and his 10.6 assists per game are good for second in the NBA behind only the Pacers’ Tyrese Haliburton.
After a slow start to the season, Young had been playing outstanding basketball recently. Over his last eight games, he averaged 32.5 points and 9.9 assists while shooting 41.4% from three on a very healthy 10.9 attempts a game. With the 25-year-old sidelined, expect Dejounte Murray to lead Atlanta’s offense.
The Hawks are already without Jalen Johnson, who took over a starting role when veteran Bogan Bogdanovic was out. The third-year wing out of Duke was playing well, averaging 14.1 points and 7.3 rebounds, helping to replace some of the production and athleticism the team lost when John Collins was traded to the Utah Jazz this offseason.
For the Sixers, they go into another game with a clean injury report. Only the team’s two-way players are out as they look to win their second straight in their first game at The Center since Nov. 27.
