The Philadelphia 76ers will continue to be shorthanded for this road trip.
The league’s reigning MVP Joel Embiid as well as Nico Batum have both been ruled out for Friday’s contest at the Houston Rockets, according to the team’s injury report.
This is the third straight miss for Embiid, who is still recovering from a sprained right ankle suffered in the first quarter against the Toronto Raptors on Dec. 22. The Sixers had been 0-4 without the big man before finally grabbing their first Embiid-less win on Wednesday night against the Orlando Magic.
Batum remains out for the fifth consecutive game as he continues to deal with a nagging hamstring strain. As of the last update from head coach Nick Nurse from last week, this road trip was the target return for Batum. He will have one more chance to make that happen as the Sixers continue on the road through Friday when they face the Bulls in Chicago.
The Rockets are posting quite a lengthy injury report for Friday as well. Victor Oladipo remains out as he recovers from left knee surgery. He has yet to play this season. Dillon Brooks will also be out for Houston with an oblique injury and Jabari Smith Jr. will also miss Friday’s contest with an ankle injury. Brooks is averaging 13.6 points with 3.5 rebounds and Smith 13.7 points with 8.6 rebounds per game for the Rockets this season.
The Sixers and Rockets are set to tip off at 8 p.m. ET on Friday.
