The Sixers have updated their injury report, adding Joel Embiid and Marcus Morris Sr. Both players are questionable for Monday’s game. Embiid’s designation is left hamstring tightness while Morris Sr. is listed with an illness.
Potentially losing Embiid for this matchup would have pretty big ramifications. He’s in the midst of a dominant stretch, averaging 40 points, 12.8 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 1.5 steals and 2.0 blocks over the past six games. Not only would the Sixers miss his automatic scoring, but also his defense against Bulls’ center Nikola Vucevic, who has produced well lately.
Along with Embiid, Morris Sr. has shot the hell out of the basketball during his Sixers tenure. Through 18 games this season, Morris Sr. is shooting 54.3 percent from three and has a true shooting percentage of 64 percent — by far a career-high for him.
A potential absence for Morris Sr. would likely see players like Kelly Oubre Jr. or Robert Covington soaking up the additional playing time. If Embiid and Morris sit, the Sixers would have to get a bit more creative, as Nurse has favored Morris Sr. as a small-ball five in some lineups. We’d likely see extended Paul Reed time, along with some Mo Bamba or even small-ball units.
Fortunately, the Sixers have enough to beat the Bulls with or without Embiid. Hopefully both of these guys will be available tonight, as they’ve put together some awesome performances as of late.
