Less than 24 hours after the Philadelphia 76ers fell in overtime to the Cleveland Cavaliers in South Philadelphia, they are on the road to take on the Minnesota Timberwolves tonight.

This is the second leg of a back-to-back coming off of that overtime loss for the Sixers, and tonight will be no easy task. The Timberwolves are playing some impressive basketball at 10-3 on the season. They are led by young guard Anthony Edwards. The 22-year-old is averaging 25.8 points per game and is joined by Karl-Anthony Towns averaging 21.5 points per game. In the supporting cast for Minnesota is big man Rudy Gobert, who would likely be the matchup for Joel Embiid. Gobert is averaging 12.0 points and 2.2 blocks per game.

After seeing how the length of Cleveland’s frontcourt dismantled the Sixers defense last night, it’s going to take some serious adjustments for Philadelphia to be able to stop Minnesota tonight. The Timberwolves are also 6-0 at home so far this season and it’s going to be no small task to change that.

The challenges will come on the offensive end for the Sixers as well. The T-Wolves are second in the league in defensive rating, at 106.5. (For comparison, the Sixers are eleventh in the league with a 111.3 rating.) Hopefully Philadelphia comes out of the gate a lot less flat than they did yesterday, because they’ll need every point they can get.

As for the Sixers, they are healthy minus Kelly Oubre Jr. as he continues to recover from a fractured rib. There’s always a chance of Embiid resting due to this being the second leg of a back-to-back, but the big man did play both legs of the Sixers most recent back-to-back, so we’ll have to wait and see. The injury report for today’s game has yet to be posted at the time of this writing, but we will update you if anything pops up on that report.

The Sixers have to fight to get momentum back on their side after a sleepy start last night that doomed them to the overtime loss. The Timberwolves have won their last two and seem to be in good form throughout the start of this young season. After traveling just after dropping that game to the Cavs last night, the Sixers’ energy level and shooting success out of the gate might determine the winner in this one.

The Sixers and Timberwolves tip off at 8 p.m. ET in Minnesota.
