The dream of a current member of the Sixers with a gold medal around his neck is dead. With Australia leading by three points at halftime, Team USA put on the afterburners in the third quarter, outscoring the Boomers, 32-10, on their way to a 97-78 win in the Olympic semifinals. In 22 minutes, Matisse Thybulle finished with six points, one rebound, two assist, two steals, and four turnovers. Thybulle’s success in this contest mirrored that of his team, starting off great:

His biggest offensive contribution was a three-point play in transition during the second quarter:

All six of his points and both steals came in the first half, with Matisse not contributing much in the way of the box score as everything fell apart for Australia in the second half. What’s Australian for c’est la vie?
We’ll have one more chance to watch Thybulle on the international stage when Australia faces Slovenia in the bronze-medal game, to take place Saturday at 7:00am ET. Matisse-Luka possessions — sign me up!
Until Saturday:
