There has been no secret about the rift between the Philadelphia 76ers and former No. 1 overall pick Ben Simmons since the team crashed out of the playoffs in a Game 7 loss to the Atlanta Hawks.
Now, with less than a month to go until training camp, it seems the marriage is all but over. Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports that Simmons and his camp informed Daryl Morey, Elton Brand and the Sixers brass that he does not intend to report for training camp, which is scheduled to begin on Sept. 28.
So, where does this leave the Sixers? Paul Hudrick and Jas Kang broke down what this means for the organization in the latest episode of The 30 podcast.
Paul and Jas also get into:
- The timing of the news and where it leaves Morey and Brand.
- How this affects the Sixers’ plans going into next season with an MVP candidate in Joel Embiid still on the roster.
- What kind of return the Sixers are likely to get in return for Simmons now that he has let his intentions be known.
- The best-case/worst-case scenario for the Sixers involving a deal for Simmons.
