The Philadelphia 76ers released their 2021 NBA Summer League roster for Las Vegas, and friends, it does not disappoint.

All three rookies from last week’s draft, Jaden Springer, Filip Petrusev, and Charles Bassey, will be participating. All signs have been that Petrusev will be a draft-and-stash for at least a year, but we will get a look at him here in the states first, even if he does then cross the pond to be the latest Dario Saric honorary “Never Coming Over” player.
In addition to the rookies, the stacked sophomore class is all getting their first taste of Summer League after last year’s tournament was cancelled due to the pandemic. Remember when Tyrese Maxey scored 39 points in an NBA game? Or temporarily saved the Sixers’ season with 16 points in a playoff game? I’m salivating what he’s going to do to these wide-eyed rooks from the collegiate ranks. Plus, we get a first at the Maxey-Springer “backcourt of the future.”
Or how about Paul Reed, already with a G League MVP trophy on his mantle? I think a bit of Summer League MVP hardware would look terrific next to it. Isaiah Joe will be there as well to drain 27-footers, and you can also sign me up for any and all opportunities to watch Rayjon Tucker dunk — real games, Summer League games, lay-up lines, whatever.
This Summer League roster is absolutely everything you could have wanted as a Sixers fan. It’s the perfect palate cleanser after the distasteful end to the 2020-21 season. Grab your virtual sunscreen and I’ll see you in the desert.
