No disaster yet for the Stars and Stripes. Team USA defeated the Czech Republic, 119-84, behind 27 points from Jayson Tatum and 23 points from Kevin Durant. With the win, the United States finishes 2-1 in Pool A play, assuring they will be moving on to the next stage of the Olympic Tournament.
However, we are all honorary Aussies here, so let’s check in on the Boomers. Team Australia also won its third match of pool play, 89-76, over Germany. At 3-0, Australia finishes as the outright victors of Group B. Patty Mills paced the Boomers with 24 points, while Matisse Thybulle had four points, two rebounds, one assist, four steals, and four fouls (in 20 minutes).
We saw Matisse harness his inner Patrick Robinson with another pick-6, and as usual, he was everywhere on the court.
Having Matisse Thybulle is such an enormous difference-maker for Australia. The athletic defensive ability all over the place in help on the FIBA court is just insane. Just covers so much ground

Something that wasn’t quite the norm was Matisse getting a little feisty out there (I love how if you click translate on this, it ends with “Be careful, bro”):

So relatively quieter Thybulle game (as far as four-steal games go), but we did see an epic fail from Matisse in trying to channel his Aussie roots and throw a boomerang.
Matisse Thybulle- Australian ✅

Still love the enthusiasm. See you in the next round, Matisse.
