Any summer is better when Matisse Thybulle is making vlogs. His series documenting life inside the NBA’s Orlando Bubble with the Philadelphia 76ers last year was brilliant, and the few offseason vlogs he put out were fun to follow, too.
Now, his smooth camera work and crisp editing is back for a new vlog series: Road To Tokyo.
Thybulle is representing Team Australia at the Tokyo Olympics and has started a new set of vlogs to give a behind-the-scenes look at what the experience entails, from his time in practice to what he’s getting up to off the court. (In case you weren’t aware, Thybulle was born in the U.S. and moved to Sydney when he was two years old. He lived there for around seven years and gained Australian citizenship.)
His first vlog showed him just getting started and attending his first practice with the team. These episodes are going to be well worth your time. Besides Thybulle’s vlogs just being fun and insightful to watch, his production is top-notch.
Thybulle got off to an impressive start with Team Australia as well. In his debut as the Boomers beat Argentina 87-84 in an exhibition game, Thybulle tallied 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting (including a 3-of-3 mark from three-point range), 5 rebounds, and had game-highs in steals (4) and blocks (3). He was his typical self defensively, causing havoc both on and off the ball. On offense, he got out well and finished strong in transition, and stayed confident with his jumper, most notably hitting a go-ahead triple from the corner with 1:35 left in the fourth quarter.
Thybulle will be back in action tonight, as Team USA takes on Australia in another exhibition match, starting at 8:00 pm ET on NBC Sports Network.
