Sixers Bell Ringer: Cold fourth quarter spells doom for Sixers against Toronto

Philadelphia 76ers v Toronto Raptors

Note: No traditional recap post for tonight’s game.

Sixers Bell Ringer Season Standings:

Joel Embiid - 14
Tobias Harris - 5
Ben Simmons - 5
Shake Milton - 3
Tyrese Maxey - 1
Dakota Mathias - 1
Matisse Thybulle - 1

It doesn’t matter if it’s Tampa or north of the border, the Philadelphia 76ers do not seem able to win a road game against the Raptors. The Sixers dropped their 16th straight road game to Toronto, going over seven minutes of the fourth quarter without making a field goal to watch a perfectly winnable game slip through their fingers. Here are your Bell Ringer candidates from the 110-103 loss to the Raptors.

Ben Simmons: 28 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists, 1 steal, 1 turnover

Philadelphia 76ers v Toronto Raptors

After missing a pair of games with the flu, Ben Simmons didn’t miss a beat from his career-high 42 points against Utah. Ben was right back to his aggressive ways from the jump in this game, recording 18 points and attempting eight free throws before halftime. Simmons would finish the game a sparkling 9-of-11 from the field and 10-of-14 from the foul line, those 14 attempts tying Joel Embiid for game-high honors. Seeing the team’s two stars both look for their own offense in the same game was encouraging, despite the loss.

Joel Embiid: 25 points, 17 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 blocks, 2 turnovers

Philadelphia 76ers v Toronto Raptors

Tonight was a far cry from Joel’s career-best 50-point barrage on Friday. The big man had an ice-cold shooting night, going just 6-of-20 from the floor. Still, he flashed some big-time moves, including his Hakeem Olajuwon-esque Dream Shake in the third quarter. Embiid scored seven points in the last two and a half minutes of the game as part of a failed last gasp of a comeback. 25 and 17 and this was basically a bad game for Joel. Quite a high bar he has set.

Danny Green: 9 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist, 5 steals, 2 blocks, 2 turnovers

Philadelphia 76ers v Toronto Raptors

Green fouled out after just 24 minutes, but was impactful on both ends during his time on the court. Danny went 3-of-6 from behind the arc, and was a hugely disruptive defensive presence with his seven combined stocks. Plus-minus is far from perfect, but it’s tough to pin this loss anywhere near Green and his team-best plus-18 mark.
