As division between Ben Simmons and the Sixers stretches into the beginning of the 2021-22 regular season, consensus from NBA fans regarding the ordeal is evident. In a poll conducted by SB Nation, more than 70 percent of voters support the Sixers in this situation.

Throughout the off-season, a host of reasons have been reported for Simmons’ discontent. Whether it’s comments following Game 7 from Joel Embiid and head coach Doc Rivers or it’s merely Simmons’ desire to play somewhere the offense is constructed around him, there are no shortage of factors supposedly contributing to his desire to leave the Sixers.
Simmons wanting to suit up for a new team is entirely justified, given he doesn’t like his current employer — as is Philadelphia’s wish to acquire a more capable offensive player. But that hasn’t stopped Sixers fans from aligning themselves with the organization even more than the average voter.

I support Simmons exercising the agency he wields as a star, while I also understand why the team is looking to find a player who remains highly effective beyond the first round. The scope of this affair requires significant nuance to properly discuss, yet recognizing why each side feels a certain way doesn’t require critical analysis. Regardless, the people have spoken.
