Postponement?

Usually a game preview is an opportunity to discuss particular matchups against the opponent, how the teams have been playing leading up to the game, etc. Today is a little different in that there’s a very real possibility of the game being postponed with literally half the Sixers’ roster questionable due to health and safety protocols.

In addition to Seth Curry’s positive COVID-19 test Thursday night, Philadelphia also had a staff member test positive last night.

Setting aside any additional contact tracing that may result from proximity to that member of the training staff, the Sixers would already have been unable to field enough players to play a game if the above list of guys marked as questionable were all out. Seth Curry (COVID-19), Furkan Korkmaz (groin), Terrance Ferguson (personal), and Mike Scott (knee) are definitely out. With the additional seven names listed in the health and safety protocols, Philadelphia would be down to just six members of their 17-man roster. You need at least eight available players to start an NBA game. Not looking great!

Oh, and Denver played the Dallas Mavericks Thursday, and the Mavericks just had a player test positive with two additional players out for contact tracing. So there’s a substantial degree of exposure from the Nuggets having played that game just two days ago. All of which is to say that it’s crazy to me that the NBA hasn’t already postponed this game. We’ll find out more in the coming hours.
