Sixers Bell Ringer Season Standings:
Joel Embiid - 8
Tobias Harris - 4
Shake Milton - 3
Ben Simmons - 1
Tyrese Maxey - 1
Dakota Mathias - 1
A nationally-televised game against the defending champs made Wednesday night’s game feel a little more important. The Sixers jumped out to a 16-point lead in the first quarter, and while they had no answer for LeBron James (34 points), they maintained a workable advantage throughout the entire game. Until, with three minutes left and Philadelphia ahead by 12 points, everything started falling apart. A 13-0 Lakers run saw the Sixers go down by one, holding possession with 11 seconds left. Enter Tobias Harris, who put the defining highlight on his redemption season with a 15-foot jumper with two seconds left to give the Sixers the 107-106 victory. Bell Ringer nominees are as follows...
Tobias Harris: 24 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal, 3 turnovers
Tonight was yet another efficient outing for Tobias, who shot 10-of-16 from the field, including 2-of-4 from 3. He looks so much more comfortable attacking right away and getting his little bump-and-run floaters or using his body as a shield to finish at the basket. Harris made a handful of big plays in the fourth quarter, nailing a turnaround baseline jumper and then canning this ridiculous stepback jumper over the outstretched hand of Anthony Davis with 3:37 left. Of course, the biggest play of the game came with just two seconds left, and this shot might well be the one Sixers fan point to down the road as to when public opinion on Tobias shifted back to positive for good.

Ben Simmons: 17 points, 11 rebounds, 10 assists, 1 steal, 1 block, 1 turnover
Simmons recorded his 31st career triple-double, but what Sixers fans are happier about was the aggressiveness Ben showed he the offensive end. It started right from the opening tip, with Simmons going right at LeBron for a right-handed finish at the bucket less than 30 seconds into the game. Ben also attacked in transition, finishing over Anthony Davis on a couple plays, and I liked his timing on picking spots for his duck-in flashes along the baseline. He also performed well as a distributor, limiting himself to just the one turnover, something Ben said after the game that assistant coach Sam Cassell has been on him about.

Joel Embiid: 28 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 blocks, 5 turnovers
Embiid exorcised his Marc Gasol demons, jab stepping and bullying the former Raptors big man into non-factor status with 13 first-quarter points. He also had an incredible block of LeBron at the rim, one of the few times the Sixers defense got the better of King James. Joel slowed down in the second half, courtesy of a hard fall on his back in the third quarter when LeBron shoved him with two hands in mid-air. Still, Joel fought through the discomfort and played 38 minutes, getting a crucial three-point play with three minutes left, the final points for the Sixers until Tobias’ game-winner.

Danny Green: 14 points, 6 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal, 2 blocks, 0 turnovers
Danny Green got up for this game against his former club. He went 4-of-9 from behind the arc, showing how he knows how to relocate and create the easy passing lanes for his teammates, and even canning a pull-up 3 in transition. The veteran also had a turn-back-the-clock block of a Dennis Schroder drive. The full Danny Green 3-and-D experience!
What a start for the Sixers today, and a good sequence here.
