As reported by PhillyVoice’s Kyle Neubeck, the Sixers are waiving guard Dakota Mathias. Mathias was on a two-way contract with the club, but with healthy bodies not in contact with COVID-affected individuals in short supply this season, he actually ended up playing 15.4 minutes per game across eight appearances, including two starts. Although his numbers of 6.0 points and 1.6 assists per game appear modest, Mathias did hit the game-winning 3 in last Tuesday’s overtime win against Miami, and more importantly, had one Liberty Ballers Bell Ringer.
Neubeck reports that there is not a corresponding move coming to fill Mathias’ vacant roster spot. It’s odd timing considering that the Sixers just had a game postponed due to not having enough available players due to contact tracing. However, the team was able to travel back to Philadelphia today and hasn’t reported any new positive COVID tests, so they must feel comfortable about having more than enough bodies for Wednesday’s game against Boston.
The #Sixers have traveled back to the Philly area today. They have no new positive COVID-19 test results to report at this time, according to a team source. Sunday’s game vs. #OKCThunder was postponed due to contact tracing, leading to the Sixers remaining in OKC Sunday night.

We’ll see if Mathias catches on anywhere else, or if he maybe winds up back on a traditional G League contract with Delaware. Until then, the General Manager Elton Brand memorial vacant roster spot is back, baby!
