Mike D’Antoni and Billy Donovan rumored to be interviewing in Camden within the next week

NBA: Playoffs-Oklahoma City Thunder at Houston Rockets Erik Williams-USA TODAY Sports

It’s not a Woj or Shams bomb, but we have a rumor from Jason Dumas, Sports Director for KRON4 News in the Bay Area and apparent Process Truster, that Mike D’Antoni and Billy Donovan will soon be in Camden to interview for Philadelphia’s vacant head coaching job:

We already received reports that both D’Antoni and Donovan were considered candidates for the job, so having them come in for an interview wouldn’t be a surprise. With top-tier talent on the roster in the forms of Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons, and three straight playoff appearances, the Sixers are clearly prioritizing veteran head coaches with playoff experience in their search. D’Antoni, of course has ties to the organization after his assistant coaching stint during the 2015-16 season.

More than anything, though, this rumor further shines light on the reality that the Sixers seem entirely prepared to go full speed ahead with hiring the next head coach without any changes having been made to the front office. Elton Brand is going to be the lead decision maker, but if the organization was planning on bringing in fresh faces, you would presumably want to hear their thoughts on the hire. After all, why would you want such an important decision made by the same group that got the roster into its current mess? As with many things having to do with Sixers basketball, your guess is as good as mine.
