The Philadelphia 76ers have selected Paul Reed with the 58th overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. Reed is a 6’9” forward out of DePaul who averaged 15.1 points, 10.7 rebounds, 1.9 steals, and 2.6 blocks per game across his junior season in 2019-20. Over his three-year career at the NCAA level, Reed shot 53.5% from the floor, 33.0% from beyond the arc, and 73.9% from the line.
Here’s what The Athletic’s John Hollinger, former Memphis Grizzlies Vice President of Basketball Operations, wrote about Reed back in May:
Some of you have heard me extoll Reed’s virtues already, but for those who haven’t: My hottest take on the 2020 class is that Reed is the most undervalued player in the draft, hiding in plain sight as a young junior mired on a brutal DePaul team. I still wonder if I have him too low here.
[...]
For me Reed projects as a high-value role player, a guy who could be a team’s best defender and productively play a secondary role on offense. I’m really interested to see where he lands in the draft, because most projections have him buried in the late second round. If that really happens, he’s an absolute steal.
Sounds like there could be a lot to be excited about with Reed, especially nabbing him at 58th overall. In addition to Reed, the Sixers have drafted Tyrese Maxey (21st) and Isaiah Joe (49th). They’ve also dealt Josh Richardson to the Dallas Mavericks for Seth Curry. All in all, an exciting and eventful evening for the Sixers Front Office and fans alike.
