2020 Mock Draft with prospect thoughts

Draft Day is tomorrow! Now is the time to give your predictions, and hopes for the draft. My prediction / hopeful trades is below:

1. Anthony Edwards

The Wolves may sike themselves out of the potential 2-way Star and pick LaMelo, but I think they may also come to their senses and draft Edwards.

2. Tyrese Haliburton

Haliburton is a 3&D player that fits into any system, and the Warriors would be wise to pick up a good perimeter defender that won't bog down their offense to replace Igoudala's production. A trade could potentially happen here too.

3. LaMelo Ball

Hornets finally won a lottery and I think they will be smart to take the big name guy that at least will still have trade value in the long run.

4. Deni Avdija

Bulls really need a wing, and they always seem to like a draft gamble. I don't think that highly of Deni so this is more prediction.

5. Devin Vassell

The Cavs also have a need at wing, and one that can defend. Vassell isn't a flashy pick, but he's this draft's best pure 3&D player.

6. Aaron Nesmith

Hawks still need to find a Star player to play alongside of Young and Collins, and Nesmith provides them an opportunity to find that on offense. I think they make the reach for him because they value offense.

7. Aleksej Pokusevski

Pistons are looking at a full rebuild, and picking the guy that they can possibly stash overseas that has Star potential is a great pick for them.

8. Obi Toppin

He's a versatile offensive scorer in the mold of a Tobias Harris. Knicks could have a building block with him there.

9. Jalen Smith

A perfect small ball 5. Jalen Smith can help the Wizards play an up-tempo, pace and space style that they will need to finally try and make the Wall+Beal duo work.

10. Saddiq Bey

An off-ball shooter with size is exactly the player that the Suns would like to have around their new trio of CP3-Booker-Ayton. Bey can give them starter minutes on day 1.

11. RJ Hampton

He was a top 6 high school recruit and did actually have a decent season in Europe, but college prospects always go earlier. Spurs are never afraid to pick a Euroleague prospect.

12. Vernon Carey Jr

The Kings have a Morey-disciple that perhaps will look past other bigger name prospects, and take the Duke Star player. Not many players ever average 18 points on Duke.

13. Tyrese Maxey

This is a great place to take a Kentuky shooting guard prospect. It has worked out for other teams, despite these players usually putting up relatively poor college seasons.

14. James Wiseman

The Celtics could use a big man, and they'll happily end Wiseman's slide. Wiseman could give them some minutes in place of Kanter, but I wouldn't expect him to be much better than Kanter.

15. Tyler Bey

Bey fits the Magic's style of athletic players that struggle as consistent jump shooters. I think he has some Star upside if he can ever work out the jumper.

16. Onyeka Okongwu

Rockets have stated a desire to get a rim protecting Center and Onyeka is an opportunity to draft a player that is that.

17. Kira Lewis Jr.

This is the Wolves second pick. They will probably want another player that can play on-off ball to fit their now core of Edwards+Towns+Russell.

18. Killian Hayes

The Mavericks need a guard that can play some defense, and Hayes has some upside on the offensive end.

19. Precious Achiuwa

Another very good small ball 5 prospect that should fit their new system well.

20. Isaac Okoro

He's a big, athletic wing. Not much production in his year of college so I think he falls to the Heat that like these types of players.

21. Cole Anthony

Sixers are lucky to get one of the best freshman PG prospects. He will need to improve his passing and effort level on defense, but was a top prospect coming in from high school so has immense top end potential.

22. Leandro Bolmaro

The Nuggets have found success taking riskier picks and draft stash players. Bolmaro may not provide them immediate help, but when he does come over he should fit nicely into what they are building and maybe give them some 3&D minutes.

23. Tre Jones

Utah needs to start growing a guard behind Conley, if they want Mitchell playing off ball, and ideally that guy will be able to be a 3&D off-ball player.

24. Patrick Williams

Pelicans have the draft capital to gamble on a raw athletic prospect that slips in the draft because he has no real position in the NBA.

25. Theo Maledon

They just traded their starting and backup PG. Maledon is a great prospect at that position.

26. Tyrell Terry

Celtics love trying to poach the Sixer's prospects, and I see them doing it again. Except that Terry is clearly a bust.

27. Nico Mannion

Knicks need a starting PG still, and Nico is perhaps the best pure PG in the draft.

28. Paul Reed

OKC can take some gambles on teaching guys how to shoot.

29. Abdoulaye N'Doye

Very athletic, atypical European prospect strikes me as a Raptors draft pick. They will want him on his 1st round contract to fully commit.

30. Isaiah Joe

Another Sixer's prospect! Oh well, just a no defense shooter.

31. Jahmi'us Ramsey

He's a good 3&D prospect that has fallen in the draft over the last few weeks.

32. Daniel Oturu

Solid defensive big man for the Hornets.

33. Jaden McDaniels

3&D prospect for the Wolves.

34. Desmond Bane

Sixer's get a shooter that can handle the ball a little bit.

35. Robert Woodard II

3&D prospect for the Kings.

36. Elijah Hughes

He's a 3 point shooter with some size that should be able to get minutes.

49. Markus Howard

Howard is a dynamic scorer that should be able to get buckets in the NBA too. His defense is non-existent so he should be available here.

58. Paul Eboua

Cameroonian player that the Sixer's need to pick. Hopefully we can stash him on a 2-way deal.
