Sixers vs. Thunder: Embiid dislocates finger during 1st quarter, returns to play in 2nd quarter

NBA: Oklahoma City Thunder at Philadelphia 76ers Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

Joel Embiid has twice left the Sixers game against the Oklahoma City Thunder Monday evening, both times with hand injuries, only to return after both injuries.

After leaving the court the first time, Embiid returned quickly, getting back in the action before the 1st quarter ended. But in the closing minutes of the opening period, Embiid again was injured. The injury appeared to be a dislocated finger, and man, that thing looked pretty funky and nasty. Below is an image — warning: might not be fun for the squeamish.

Embiid was taken straight back to the locker room and apparently a team medical official (?) quickly went to work. Joel was back on the court by the time play resumed for the 2nd quarter with his finger taped up and back in place.

UPDATE: According to Derek Bodner of The Athletic, Embiid is having his finger re-evaluated following the game.
