Joel Embiid has been medically cleared and is available to play Tuesday evening against the Golden State Warriors, per Serena Winters of NBC Sports Philadelphia.
Embiid was upgraded to questionable Monday afternoon after missing the Sixers’ last 9 games. Now, it’s sounding like he’s going to suit up tonight, just 18 days after having surgery on a torn ligament in the ring finger on his left hand.
This is wonderful news for the Sixers, who have a tough schedule stretch heading into the All-Star Weekend, including games against the Los Angeles Clippers, Boston Celtics, Milwaukee Bucks, and Miami Heat. Making Embiid’s return even more timely is Josh Richardson’s recent injury, which could keep him out through the All-Star break.
Tonight’s game will be an emotional environment for Embiid. Joel has commented on Kobe’s influence on his own NBA aspirations in the past. Embiid has experienced a tragedy within his own family. All players involved tonight are playing for a bit more.
