Sixers Intrasquad Fantasy Draft: Seventh Pick

The projected sixth man for the Sixers was also the sixth man selected in our exercise

Shout out to Liberty Ballers community member gramercy riffs, who has already made a fanpost about a Sixers intrasquad fantasy draft. We’re tweaking his idea a bit and putting the draft to a community vote in this exercise.

I’m enjoying FIBA World Cup play as much as the next person, but it’s mostly serving to whet my appetite for the return of NBA action, in particular a glimpse of the new-look Sixers. While we wait for the season to roll around, international competition has to suffice, in addition to fun exercises like our intrasquad fantasy draft.

In our previous installment, Mike Scott received 46 percent of the vote to join Joel Embiid on the Sixers Red squad, almost double the amount of the next-highest vote-getter (Zhaire Smith at 24 percent). Looking at how the Embiid and Scott performed together last season, it makes sense that the LB community wanted to pair the duo together in our hypothetical tournament. Per NBA.com, in 183 minutes together last regular season, lineups with Embiid and Scott had an outstanding net rating of plus-14.4, the best of any Embiid-teammate pairing that appeared in more than one game together.

Entering the stage of this draft where we’re adding a third player to each squad, roster construction takes on an even bigger role in each selection. An Embiid-Scott frontcourt would seem to eliminate potential options like Kyle O’Quinn or Jonah Bolden for Sixers Red. You can only have so many big men playing together after all (don’t tell Elton Brand, though).

Zhaire Smith and Trey Burke were the two remaining players to receive a significant portion of the previous vote and each would bring a welcome skill set to the Sixers Red squad (perimeter defense from Smith, shot creation from Burke). Additionally, wings like James Ennis and Matisse Thybulle could fill a 3-and-D role to help spacing around Embiid. There are still a number of ways you could choose to go with this selection.

Sixers Red: Joel Embiid, Mike Scott
Sixers White: Ben Simmons, Josh Richardson
Sixers Blue: Tobias Harris, Al Horford

Who should join Joel Embiid and Mike Scott on Sixers Red?
