We knew entering the night with five draft picks, there was a good chance the Sixers would be active. After moving up to select Matisse Thybulle, Elton Brand has now made his second trade of the night:

Sixers trading J Simmons and 42 pick for cash considerations to Wizards, according to league source.

I made my feelings known yesterday on the idea of the Sixers selling any draft picks, but there is some benefit to this trade for Philadelphia beyond the cash. Jonathon Simmons had $1 million guaranteed on his contract this year ($5.7 million if not waived), so Brand has created an additional $1 million in cap space to work with in free agency. Call this deal one last vestige of the lingering Markelle Fultz mistake, as the Sixers had to give up yet another asset to fully move on from that era.
Ultimately, if this move helps the #RunItBack cause in some small way, Sixers fans will consider it a success.
