On a night when the Texas Tech Red Raiders thwomped the Texas Longhorns, two Red Raiders alum took the floor in Delaware for the Blue Coats’ game against the Fort Wayne Mad Ants. Zhaire Smith (and Keenan Evans) contributed in their own ways to the Blue Coats’ victory on Monday night.
In 19 minutes, Smith finished with 12 points (5-for-9 from the field), two rebounds, two assists, a block, and some phenomenal on-ball defense. His scoring opened with an all-too-familiar putback dunk off a missed shot. He did not connect on his lone 3-point attempt from the right wing, but he looked more comfortable within the offense and played within himself. Smith drilled a jumper from the elbow off the dribble and was able to get by defenders with his explosiveness.

Reports came out after the game that Zhaire would be joining the 76ers after the Blue Coats’ season ends on March 23.

Whether that means Smith will just be around the team or he’ll actually get to take the floor for Philadelphia remains to be seen. Regardless, it’s good to see Zhaire looking healthy and more like his old self.
