Ben Simmons has won the Eastern Conference player of the week according to Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer.
The 2017-2018 Rookie of the Year will join Donovan Mitchell, who has won the award for the Western Conference. Mitchell of the Utah Jazz was runner-up for Rookie of the Year behind Simmons a year ago.
Simmons averaged 16.7 points, 13.3 rebounds, 8.0 assists and 2 steals per game last week.
According to Derek Bodner of The Athletic, Simmons’ teammate Tobias Harris was also nominated for the award.
Simmons recorded two triple doubles last week, one against the Thunder and one against the Golden State Warriors. He also added lots of stellar defensive play disrupting a couple of the better offensive attacks in the league.
The team has relied upon their Aussie phenom more than usual lately because of Joel Embiid’s absence, as the team’s star center deals with left knee tendinitis.
Simmons will look to continue his All-Star worthy play when the team hosts the Orlando Magic tomorrow at 7pm.
