The new look Philadelphia 76ers are back in action today. Once again on national television, the Sixers take on the Los Angeles Lakers, led by LeBron James and all the players he wanted to trade. This will be Philadelphia’s second game with their new core four after a thrilling 117-110 win over the Denver Nuggets.
Newcomer Tobias Harris started his Sixers career off on the right foot, scoring 14 points along with 8 rebounds and 3 assists, giving the Nuggets defense problems all night. Due to the strong core of scorers in the starting lineup, JJ Redick was able to find more open shots than usual (editor’s note: just don’t tell him that), leading to a season-high 34 points for the sharpshooter.
Now 6-4 over their last ten games, the Sixers are still in the middle of the toughest 12-game stretch of the season. With the new additions and added depth, the team looks strong as they now stand at 35-20, 4th in the Eastern Conference.
The Lakers come into this contest following their most exciting game of the season, a 129-128 win over the Boston Celtics thanks to a Rajon Rondo game-winner as time expired. Even with the victory, the Lakers stand at only 28-27 on the season, good for 10th in the Western Conference. Now that LeBron James is back from his groin injury, the team will look to string together some wins in order to grab a playoff spot.
With just three games before the All-Star break, the Sixers will look to put the rest of the NBA on notice, and knocking off the greatest basketball player of this generation could go a long way toward accomplishing that goal.
