The Sixers have announced plans for the “Blue x White Scrimmage”, when fans will get their first look at the 2018-2019 Sixers. From the press release:
PHILADELPHIA — SEPT. 10, 2018 — The Philadelphia 76ers announced today it will hold its Blue x White Scrimmage, presented by Independence Blue Cross on Tuesday, Sept. 25 from 7-9 p.m. at The Palestra. The event is the fans’ first chance to see the 2018-19 76ers team.
“We are excited to bring the Blue x White Scrimmage back to the Palestra for the second straight year,” said Head Coach Brett Brown. “This historic gym, which is so rich in basketball tradition, provides the perfect atmosphere to introduce this year’s team to our awesome fans. Last year’s scrimmage was electric, and we look forward to sharing our excitement for the upcoming season on September 25.”
Tickets to the Blue x White Scrimmage, presented by Independence Blue Cross, will be free to the general public starting Tuesday, Sept. 18 via 76ers social media platforms. To guarantee tickets, fans may sign up for Club 76 Elite, the Philadelphia 76ers Official Membership and Season Ticket Waiting List.
“Our fans are some of the most dedicated and passionate in the NBA and the level of excitement for this upcoming season is incredible,” 76ers President of Business Operations Chris Heck said. “To once again be able to host our Blue x White Scrimmage with a great partner like Independence Blue Cross in such an iconic basketball location is perfect for our team, players, fans and city. We’re looking forward to the energy and atmosphere this event will create as the start of our season draws near.”
The Blue x White Scrimmage is a really fun event, and the fact that it takes place at the Palestra just adds to the excitement. If you recall, last year’s scrimmage also took place at the Palestra, however it was an afternoon event while this year’s game begins at 7 pm. The buildup to last season’s scrimmage focused on Ben Simmons, with fans having waited a full year to see the rookie finally take the court with his teammates. This year, Markelle Fultz and his rebuilt jumpshot will undoubtedly be the draw on September 25th.
Confused about what the Blue x White Scrimmage is? Well it’s basically an open-to-the-public practice in which the Sixers’ roster is divided into two teams, the Blue team and the White team, and the two squads play a game against each other. It’s not as intense as a regular season game as you probably could’ve guessed, but it’s a nice little primer for the season to come.
If you are already jonesing for Sixers’ basketball, I suggest setting some reminders in your phone for September 18th (the day the tickets are made available to the public). I got my tickets last year by staying on top of the team’s Twitter account, which provided a link to reserve and download tickets for entry. The event being free, it is absolutely worth attending.
For those of you keeping track at home, the scrimmage is just 15 days away! Only two weeks until you can go observe Ben and Jo and Bob and Dario with your own two eyes. Basketball is just around the corner.
