According to a Sixers press release, Zhaire Smith has suffered a left foot injury while taking part in a development camp. From the press release:
STATEMENT FROM PHILADELPHIA 76ERS VICE PRESIDENT OF ATHLETE CARE DR. DANIEL MEDINA:
Rookie guard Zhaire Smith suffered a left foot injury during Tim Grgurich’s development camp in Las Vegas on Monday. He is returning to Philadelphia to be further evaluated and updates will be made available once a diagnosis is determined.
Is this Sixers-y enough for you, Sixers fans?
- Mysterious? ✓
- In the offseason? ✓
- Lack of information? ✓
- Need to be reevaluated? ✓
- Updates to come at a future date? ✓
Yup, this is a classic.
In all seriousness, hopefully this is something minor. While Zhaire is raw, he has the defensive tools to contribute from the bench immediately. The Sixers could use his services from the jump. On top of the immediate impact Zhaire could make, I mentioned that Zhaire is raw. This offseason is important for the rookie’s development, and any time missed could be destructive.
We will keep you updated on anything we hear related to the situation. In the meantime, pray to a higher power that Zhaire doesn’t forget how to shoot.
