According to a Philadelphia 76ers press release, the Sixers will workout Kevin Knox (Forward, Kentucky) and Zhaire Smith (Guard, Texas Tech) tomorrow, June 19th. Smith will work with a group at 11 am while Knox will have an individual workout later at 1 pm. Smith and Knox had already worked out for the Sixers on June 12th and June 15th, respectively.
The group that Zhaire Smith will be working with includes B.J. Johnson (G-F, La Salle), De’Anthony Melton (G, USC), Tyler Nelson (G, Fairfield), Malik Newman (G, Kansas) and Landry Shamet (G, Wichita State). Smith projects to be a lottery pick, but he’s not the only first round talent in the group. De’Anthony Melton is probably a bit too risky to take in the lottery for some teams (although, it wouldn’t be a total shock if he went in the end of the lottery). Melton was involved in a scandal at USC and withdrew from the program in February ‘18. With no recent performance for scouts to go on, he could possibly slip to the Sixers at pick #26, but that’s doubtful. Landry Shamet is borderline first round talent who is much more likely to be on the board when the 26th pick rolls around.
Knox and Smith getting second workouts is notable. It could be a clue as to who the Sixers are seriously considering with the #10 pick.
The NBA Draft is three days away.
