On Wednesday, the NBA announced the finalists for six top awards from the 2017-18 regular season. And, to no one’s surprise, the Philadelphia 76ers will be well represented at the second annual NBA Awards ceremony next month in Santa Monica, CA.
Ben Simmons will be vying for Rookie of the Year honors along with Boston’s Jayson Tatum and Utah’s Donovan Mitchell. Joel Embiid is one of the three finalists for Defensive Player of the Year, and he’ll have to beat out Utah’s Rudy Gobert and Anthony Davis of the New Orleans Pelicans in order to take home the hardware.
Unfortunately, Brett Brown didn’t make the cut for Coach of the Year: Voters chose Brad Stevens, Quin Snyder and former Toronto Raptors head coach Dwane Casey (awkward) as the three finalists for the Red Auerbach Trophy.
The 2018 NBA Awards (presented by Kia) will be broadcast on TNT at 9 P.M. ET on June 25.
