Sixers favorites to win Eastern Conference, 8/1 to win NBA Finals

NBA: Playoffs-Miami Heat at Philadelphia 76ers Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

Your Philadelphia 76ers, who only recently became the favorite to win the Eastern Conference according to Vegas, have increased their odds to 8/5 to win the East, and are now at 8/1 to win it all. The Sixers 8/1 odds to win the NBA Finals are the 3rd highest, after the Golden State Warriors (10/11) and the Houston Rockets (2/1). To those who are unfamiliar with how future bets work, that would mean that if you risked $100 on the Sixers to win the Finals at this moment, you would win $800. Pretty nice payout right?

Well, when the odds came out before the season started, the Sixers opened at 100/1 to win the Finals, meaning a $100 bet would win you $10,000. Oh how I wish I knew then, what I know now.

Vegas oddsmakers set odds to generate action, so the numbers should be taken with a grain of salt. They’re not always indicative of who the models actually like, but rather how the models expect the public to react. However, the odds still speak volumes about what the Sixers have shown in the first round; the Sixers outclassed the Heat.

Before the playoffs started, I looked at a few teams and thought, “Man, I really don’t want the Sixers to have to face Team X.” Now? There’s not a single team the Sixers should fear. Have preferences? Sure. But I am firmly convinced the Sixers can run with anyone in the East over 7 games.

This team continues to surprise. I’m losing words to describe it. It’s almost unbelievable. The Sixers, the Philadelphia 76ers, have the 3rd highest odds to win the f*cking NBA Finals.

For now, enjoy some time off. The Celtics/Bucks series is currently 3-2 in favor of Boston. If the series were to go 7, it would result in a nice accumulation of rest for Philly. Either way, I expect Brett Brown to have his team ready to go.
