The Delaware 87ers are no more.
In conjunction with their impending move to Wilmington, the Philadelphia 76ers G-League franchise has gone into the Lake of Reincarnation and has emerged as the Delaware Blue Coats.

The new name/branding is a nod to the 1st Delaware Regiment soliders of the American Revolution, while the team’s logo depicts former Delaware politician Caesar Rodney’s famous 70-mile horseback ride en route to the Second Continental Congress.
It wasn’t hard to figure out what the Sixers were trying to do previously with the naming of their G-League affiliate, but even the organization itself admitted that the 87ers/Sevens branding was a bit awkward. That said, “Blue Coats” doesn’t exactly roll off of the tongue, but this is a much more cleaner and consistent presentation (and FWIW, the uniforms are SHARP).
The team formerly known as the Sevens will make their debut at the not-yet-complete 76ers Fieldhouse in Wilmington later this fall. The 140,000-square-foot facility will house a youth training center and can host approximately 2,500 fans for Blue Coats games.
Farewell, 87ers. No matter what happens from here on out, we’ll always have this gem of a moment...
Welcome to Delaware! https://t.co/AlXaKlPWW5
