You may remember Ilyasova from such teams as... the 2016-17 Sixers. The 6-10 forward was acquired in an early season trade with the Oklahoma City Thunder, and he played fairly well (14.8 PPG and 5.9 RPG in 53 games) before being dealt to the Atlanta Hawks last February. With the Hawks this season, Ilyasova averaged 10.9 points and 5.5 rebounds in 25.6 minutes per game.
Ilyasova is a clear offensive upgrade for the Sixers’ second unit, and he (in a quasi stretch-4 role) and Embiid played well when paired together last season. Ironically enough, Ilyasova was dealt (in part) to free up minutes for Dario Saric at the 4, and now, the Turkish forward returns to serve primarily as The Homie’s backup.
During his first stint with the Sixers, Ilyasova and the team held preliminary discussions on a contract extension, but those talks ultimately never advanced very far. To make room for Ilyasova on the roster, the team parted ways with F/C Trevor Booker.
