Sixers vs. Hornets: Game Preview

New, comments

The Sixers look to even up their record on the season tonight in South Philadelphia.

NBA: Philadelphia 76ers at Charlotte Hornets Sam Sharpe-USA TODAY Sports

The Sixers are back home in Philadelphia after a tough loss to the Milwaukee Bucks, looking to bring their record back to .500 tonight with a win against the Charlotte Hornets. The Hornets are currently sitting at a record of 3-3 after a win last night over the Chicago Bulls.

Last season, the Sixers went undefeated in games against the Hornets, all of which were played with Ersan Ilyasova and Marco Belinelli on the team. This Sixers team looks a little different, however, with the addition of Mike Muscala and Markelle Fultz able to play and being inserted into a starting role. The Sixers will have to contend with Eastern Conference Player of the Week, Kemba Walker, if they want to win. Walker, with the 4th highest PPG in the NBA at this moment, is averaging 31 points per game with a FG% of 49.2%.

Yesterday afternoon, it was reported that Joel Embiid would be questionable for the game after rolling his ankle in practice on Friday. That’s potentially a huge blow for the Sixers as he has been averaging 30 PPG (29.6 PPG if we’re being specific, but I’m choosing to round up). If Embiid can’t go tonight, other team members will have to step it up to fill in the massive offensive hole. First on that list is the red hot JJ Redick, who is averaging 21 points per game and shooting 43% from behind the arc. This game would also be a great time for Robert Covington to get going. Covington had a tough game against the Bucks, only scoring 8 points and finishing the game with 0 steals. The Sixers are currently undefeated at the Center, but will need big offensive performances from their stars in order to stay that way.

Injury Report:

Sixers: Joel Embiid (ankle), Wilson Chandler (hamstring), Jerryd Bayless (knee), Zhaire Smith (foot)
