Shams Charania says Sixers have been identified as a team that “could get involved” in Butler talks

Shams Charania tweeted out a video clip of his appearance on The Territory (a Stadium presentation), in which Shams discusses what he knows of the Jimmy Butler situation. The segment is mostly in regards to the Houston Rockets’ re-engaged pursuit of Jimmy Butler. However, toward the end, Shams mentions other teams that may be involved and the Sixers come up:

Teams around the league are expecting the Timberwolves to really survey the market, continue to survey the market for teams like Miami to get back in the fold potentially, and even [the Philadelphia 76ers]. They’ve gotten off to a little bit of a slow start, teams are still identifying them as a team that could get involved here.

What we have here is other teams around the league telling Shams Charania that the Sixers could get involved in Butler trade talks. What can we take away from this report?

It could mean that the Sixers are actively engaging the Timberwolves and constructing a package for an offer, and that that information has leaked out. OR it could mean that teams are speculating that because the Sixers have sputtered out of the gate to start the season, they might be enticed to shake things up.

It sounds like the latter of those two circumstances at this point.
