Sixers News: Markelle Fultz’s jersey number has finally been revealed

Solid choice.

The wait is over, ladies and gentlemen. Markelle Fultz’s number has officially been revealed, and it’s a solid choice from the No. 1 pick out of the University of Washington.

There’s not exactly an illustrious history for the No. 7 on the Philadelphia 76ers, with most of the players who rocked it topping out at the role player level. Some recent names on the list: Larry Drew, Lorenzo Brown, Royal Ivey, Carl Landry, Adonis Thomas, Sam Young, Andre Miller, Ersan Ilyasova, and the irreverent John Salmons. Let’s hope Fultz is able to do a little better than that list.

No. 7 carries a little bit of significance for the young guard. Though he rocked the No. 20 in college—a number currently owned by Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot on the current Sixers—Fultz did suit up for Team USA wearing lucky No. 7. And he looked pretty damn good while doing so, if you check the tape.

The Sixers could use a dose of good luck, so maybe their new No. 7 will be the charm they needed all along. Now go get your custom jersey orders ready.

UPDATE: Maybe slow down on the pre-orders. During a livestream from this afternoon’s shootaround, Fultz said his number still isn’t finalized for this season. So he may end up wearing something else. The plot thickens!

Here’s the full quote from Fultz on his number, courtesy of Sixers PR:

Seven right now. I'm still working on figuring out what number I'm going to wear for the season. I actually wore this number in USA basketball, so at the end of the day, a number doesn't matter to me. It matters what you do in the number. You can make history out of any number. We are still going through the process of figuring out what I'm going to wear for the season. But right now, I think seven looks pretty good on me.
