Ben Simmons is hanging out in Las Vegas while the Sixers are competing in summer league, but that doesn’t mean he’s not putting any work in.

The top pick in the 2016 NBA Draft posted a video on Instagram late Tuesday night in UNLV’s practice gym, knocking down nine straight three pointers.

We learned during the pre-draft process that knocking down threes at a slow pace in a completely empty gym doesn’t really mean a ton, but Simmons’ shot mechanics look a little better. His upper and lower body seem to be much more in sync than they were when we last saw him get up shots in summer league last year.

Not being able to knock down threes at the NBA level won’t necessarily make or break his career; he’s too good of a ball handler/passer to ever flame out of the league. But his outside shooting could be the difference between Simmons being a perennial superstar or more of a role player. If Simmons is ever able to become even a league average three-point shooter, it will certainly won’t happen right out of the gate. He shots just three three-point attempts during his one season at LSU.

On Wednesday morning, Simmons posted a picture of him and LeBron James after the two worked out together.

Another good session

James and Simmons’ relationship is well documented. Simmons is signed to Klutch Sports, the agency run by James’s close friend Rich Paul. James has also publicly referred to himself as Simmons’ mentor.

Hanging around basketball royalty isn’t a bad way to spend some time in the Sin City.
