The big trade has happened. The Sixers got what they needed. The Celtics get who they liked and probably needed more in Tatum most likely. TheSixers could have a bigger version of Chris Paul. That is how much I liked Fultz. However, the Celtics get three shots at a top 5 pick as long as it is not number one in the next two years. To me both GM's read the market knew what the other wanted and struck a fair bargain.
After watching Jonas Jerebko start at power forward or a washed up Amir Johnson the Celtics desperately needed help at the four. Tatum may not have the upside of Fultz but every scout agrees he will be a solid NBA player. The Sixers did not need another forward on the team. So they traded for the most promising guard in Fultz.
By trading down the Celtics saved salary cap room. Almost enough to sign a max free agent on a young improving team with 53 wins last year. The Celtics get a valuable pick to either trade for a star player or keep and get another homegrown star.
Now it is put up or shut up time for the Process. Sixers fans have waited patiently for years for this team to come to fruition. It is time to see if all the bad teams you have had to watch, will finally payoff.
So in conclusion, I think more Philly fans think they got the better of this deal. However, we are a long ways off to finding out if that is really so. For me, I would consider this trade a draw, but that Philly had a couple more pawns on the board than the Celtics. Good luck, to all the Sixers fans wouldn't it be great if our kids can see the best rivalry in basketball in the playoffs.
