NBA Draft 2017: Sixers scout Frank Ntilikina, plan to workout Dennis Smith Jr.

Draft season is in full swing right now, as information about team workouts is increasingly becoming available. The Sixers, possessing the third pick in next month’s draft and the ammo to make more moves, have been doing their due diligence on this year’s crop of point guards. Bleacher Report’s Jonathan Wasserman reports that the Sixers are among the teams that have recently scouted French guard Frank Ntilikina, who plays for Strausbourg:

Ntilikina seems projected to go towards the end of the top 10, as evident by the Knicks, Mavericks and Kings, who have the eighth, ninth and 10th picks, respectively, keeping an eye on him. I’m high on Ntilikina as a three-and-D fit on the Sixers, as I discussed earlier today in a mailbag, but I can’t see him going as high as three. It’s still a smart move for Bryan Colangelo and co. to scout him regardless.

The Sixers are additionally trying to arrange a workout with North Carolina State point guard Dennis Smith Jr., per college hoops writer Adam Zagoria. Smith Jr. is an explosive guard who could thrive in a NBA predicated on the pick-and-roll attack, but his full athleticism wasn’t quite on display at NC State after a torn ACL forced him to miss the entirety of his senior year of high school. Teams will be banking on him return to the form of the elite prep recruit he once was.
