Sixers Fight and Claw, but Robert Covington Goes Down and So does the Team

NBA: Philadelphia 76ers at Cleveland Cavaliers Ken Blaze-USA TODAY Sports

Well what a freaking buzzkill.

The shorthanded Sixers were hanging around with the Cavs for about 45 minutes. Then Robert Covington went flying in to a metal box behind the Cavaliers bench and the game might as well just have ended right then and there.

Robert finished with 19 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 steals while shooting very confidently and going 5-7 from three. Ben Simmons chipped in 14 points, 10 assists, and 6 rebounds while Rec Spec Dario finished with 17 points, 9 rebounds, and 6 assists. J.J. Redick had a very rough start to the game, but finished with 19 on 4-9 three-point shooting.

One bright spot here…

New guy Trevor Booker had a great first impression as he was a spark off the bench as he recorded 12 points and 8 rebounds (4 offensive rebounds). Alas, this was not enough as LeBron did his thing and recorded his 58th triple double of his career (30/13/13). This was a very fun game overall until Robert went down; the Sixers were fighting and clawing and making an effort to stay in the game.

On the rear end of this back-to-back, the Sixers will travel down to New Orleans and take on the Kentucky Twin Towers in Anthony Davis and Demarcus Cousins and there is some good news: Joel Embiid WILL be playing.

But overall, we hope that Robert Covington is alright, because we love you, Robert.

Other Notes:

- Jerryd Bayless and Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot combined for 2 points, 5 assists, 2 rebounds, 4 fouls and -19. The rough stretch for this backup backcourt continues to be infuriating to watch night after night.

- Ben Simmons had a season high 7 turnovers, the lack of Embiid obviously not helping his cause there.

- The Sixers are now on a 3 game losing streak, and have a vry tough stretch ahead, as they face both New Orleans and Minnesota away, and then come home to host the Thunder. This is going to be a rigorous stretch for a young and beat up team
