Predictably, the Sixers announced this morning that they had assigned Furkan Korkmaz to the G-League. However, according to Keith Pompey, they’re putting him on the Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot plan and he’ll be back up with the team tomorrow. The TLC Special assures Korkmaz will continue to get in practice reps. Korkmaz had only been active for one game (last night) and that was pretty much due to Markelle Fultz being inactive.
Korkmaz looked lost at times in Summer League before seeming to put it together in pre-season, starting with the Blue-White scrimmage at the Palestra where he put on a shooting exhibition. But he has to get stronger and he has to learn how to play NBA defense. Brett Brown had this to say of Korkmaz’s game after that scrimmage:
“He obviously can shoot...I think there’s a complete player that’s growing. We’re going to be on him all year about his body and defense, but he can facilitate and pass.”
He also, and we can never forget this, won a dunk contest on a relatively simple dunk in an $8 Darth Vader costume.
