Ben Simmons Rolls Ankle in Training Camp Practice, Will Get X-Rays

Hold your breath for the Sixers’ first-overall pick

NBA: Summer League-Philadelphia 76ers vs Golden State Warriors Stephen R. Sylvanie-USA TODAY Sports

Just when things seemed to be progressing well during the first week of the 76ers’ training camp, news came out this afternoon that presumed franchise savior Ben Simmons rolled his ankle at practice today, per the Sixers’ own Brian Seltzer:

This doesn’t appear to be anything significant from the way Seltzer frames it. It would be safe to assume that Simmons would be fine for the Sixers’ season debut next month, but Simmons’ status for Tuesday’s preseason opener against the Celtics may now be in jeopardy.

It wouldn’t be the Sixers you all know and love if preseason went off without a hitch. Hopefully this is just a small bump in the road we can laugh about later, because being in full-scale panic mode all the time isn’t the most exhilarating way to live.

Stay tuned for more about Simmons’ ankle x-rays and overall health as they become available.
