LeBron James made one of the league’s most iconic plays last year when he pinned an Andre Iguodala layup attempt against the basket in Game 7 of the NBA Finals, helping to clinch a championship for the Cleveland Cavaliers.
On Friday night, Joel Embiid made a very similar play against James in what is surely becoming an iconic rookie season for the seven-footer. As James drove down the left side of the lane and casually attempted to finish with his right hand, Embiid hustled down the floor and delivered an emphatic rejection.

We can ignore the fact that the block was probably a goaltend (unless you’re really convinced that ball had no chance of going in or was below ring level), but it’s just another impressive play by Embiid so young in his career. The fact that it came against the world’s best player in LeBron James makes it that much better.
The legend of Joel Embiid continues to grow.
