Nerlens Noel’s absence from the 76ers takes another strange turn, as the team released a press report this evening stating that Noel would be getting a “minor surgical procedure.” Here’s what the team had to say:
The last time a Sixers big man had minor surgery that was only supposed to sideline him six weeks, Jahlil Okafor ended up missing seven months. If this is a severe injury concern, it’s another in a long line of health problems for Noel.
The injury gets a little murkier when considering that Noel is clearly dissatisfied with his situation in Philadelphia, as well as the team’s own displeasure with his grievances. Does he just not want to play for them and this is their excuse why he won't be with the team to start the season? So much for the transparency of the Bryan Colangelo era, huh?
In terms of other injuries, the Sixers announced that head coach Brett Brown’s comments that Ben Simmons would be back in January were a bit “premature,” and that Jerryd Bayless will not be having surgery on his left wrist and will be reevaluated in two weeks.
