On the heels of Elton Brand's signing, the Sixers needed to release on player on their roster to fit Brand. Christian Wood is that unfortunate casualty, per the Inquirer's Keith Pompey:
Christian Wood will be player released to make room for Elton Brand.
— Keith Pompey (@PompeyOnSixers) January 4, 2016
Wood oozed potential and displayed it at times during his infrequent playing time with the Sixers, including a 15-point, eight-rebound performance against the Thunder back in November, but the same off the court issues that caused a lottery talent to go undrafted were part of his undoing in Philadelphia as well. His involvement in Jahlil Okafor's legal woesdid him no favors and the transition from him to the veteran presence that Brand brings symbolically brings some hope to Okafor's maturation process.
Wood, however, should still be worth a look for other teams with some playing time for a young big on a super team-friendly contract.
