Sixers Waive Gerald "Crash" Wallace

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

The 76ers have had 22 players linked to them as they open training camp. Some dominoes had to fall before Monday, when the team introduces the 20-man training camp roster to the world through selected local media members. The first domino is the release of the most experienced member of the roster - the recently acquired Gerald Wallace.

Gerald Wallace played too well, too hard, and for too long to deserve this fate, being waived by the consensus worst team in the league. Unfortunately, fate isn't necessarily fair, and this was Wallace's fate once the Sixers acquired him along with limited draft compensation for Jason Thompson. The Sixers have no obligation to Wallace after this season, and it's uncertain whether or not the team and Wallace negotiated a buyout.

Wallace would be a great addition as an end-of-bench veteran to a better NBA team, and ultimately this could be good for Crash.

The move leaves the Sixers with 19 roster players, and would leave room for Arsalan Kazemi to join the team if he chooses to sign.
