2015 NBA Draft: Sixers To Work Out Mudiay

Emmanuel Mudiay has a workout upcoming with the Sixers, as well as other teams.

As the 2015 NBA Draft draws closer, many of the bigger name prospects will begin to take part in private and group workouts for teams. One guy many teams will be interested in seeing up close in person is point guard Emmanuel Mudiay.

Former 76ers and current SMU head coach Larry Brown told reporters today that Mudiay will workout for Philadelphia at some point, as well as the Lakers and Knicks. Those dates are currently unknown.

Mudiay committed to play for Brown at SMU this season, but opted to travel to China and join the Guangdong Southern Tigers of the CBA instead. Due to injury, he was limited to just 12 games, where he averaged 18 points, 6.3 rebounds, and nearly 6 assists a game.

The Lakers drafting Mudiay would be a pretty perfect scenario for both the Sixers and Knicks, assuming they want D'Angelo Russell and Jahlil Okafor, respectively. Pre-draft workouts aren't the place where highly touted prospects like Mudiay would jump up a draft board (and if a workout does actually changes a team's opinion of a player, they have some serious player evaluation issues), so unless Los Angeles is already super high on the 19-year-old, it doesn't mean much. A smart team will bring in as many guys as possible just to help reinforce their opinions on a player obtained from actual game scouting, so not a whole lot should be read into any pre-draft workout, especially conducted by the Sixers.

Other Notes

A league source told Liberty Ballers that Wyoming power forward Larry Nance Jr. was among the group of players that worked out at PCOM today. Nance averaged 16.1 points on 51.4% shooting, and chipped in 7.2 rebounds per game. He helped lead Wyoming to an NCAA tournament bid, and led the Cowboys with 16 points and 7 rebounds in a loss to Northern Iowa. He performed very well at the NBA Draft Combine, and could end up sneaking into the latter part of the second round. Draft Express rates him 77th on their list of top 100 prospects.

Louisville shooting guard Wayne Blackshear has a workout with the Sixers upcoming, according to Jeff Greer of The Courier-Journal. No date is currently known. The 23-year-old had a disappointing season shooting the ball, averaging 11.6 points on 39.3% shooting from the floor, and 33.1% from beyond the arc. Blackshear is likely to go undrafted.

Villanova guard Darrun Hilliard will also workout for the Sixers at some point this week, according to VU Hoops. He averaged 14.3 points on 44.0% shooting and 3.1 rebounds per game in his senior season with the Wildcats. Like Blackshear, he is also expected to go undrafted.
