In the aftermath of a Saturday night, 10PM press release crushing the hopes and dreams of Sixers fans and replacing those gaps with alcohol or something maybe harder, the actual details of the injury and the setback were unknown. After today, well, we still don't know anything, as separate reports indicate that surgery may or may not be on the table.
The first report came from 6ABC's (Philadelphia's ABC local station) Jeff Skversky:
Joel Embiid's right foot will NOT require a second surgery an NBA Source close to the #Sixers center tells @6abc pic.twitter.com/zS4Uh06xnD

That's good! No surgery!
Except maybe not? John Gonzalez's (of CSN Philly) sources say otherwise:
League source: Too early to know one way or other if Joel Embiid will require surgery. Sixers still gathering info. Hasn’t been ruled out

To be clear, it’s possible Joel Embiid won’t require surgery. But told nothing ruled out while team gathers info/consults specialists

Hate to knock down someone else’s reporting, but saying Joel Embiid definitely won’t require surgery was premature. Again, nothing ruled out

I know everyone got excited by the definitely no surgery report. Sorry. But really, nothing has changed. Still in a maybe/maybe not scenario

So at the end of the day? We don't really know more, though Gonzo has a longer history of reporting on Sixers news. As always with this team and big men, we're playing a waiting game. The gist is: at this point, until the team confirms otherwise, we don't know what will happen. And good luck getting a straight answer out of the team.
