Depending on your valuation of entertainment value, you're either extremely happy or extremely despondent upon hearing the news from Marc Stein:
ESPN sources say Sixers and JaVale McGee are having discussions on potential buyout as today's playoff-eligibility buzzer looms at midnight— Marc Stein (@ESPNSteinLine) March 1, 2015
With McGee due $12 million guaranteed next season, chances of buyout likely depend on JaVale finding new team that wants to bring him in now— Marc Stein (@ESPNSteinLine) March 1, 2015
As Stein noted, McGee is owed $12 million for next year, which would presumably be reduced upon a buyout. The 76ers don't need to save much money this season due to the salary floor number they're up against. I wrote about that situation here. Any savings will likely be used to create more flexibility in the future or come right up against the floor for this season.
In the meantime, leave the JaVale McGee - Veteran Mentor memories alone.
