Marc Stein lays out the land of the NBA right now, with eight teams needing to make roster cuts to get to the NBA roster limit of 15 by 5:00 PM EDT today. Here's Marc on the league, and on the Sixers:
All NBA teams, as always, must be down to a maximum of 15 players by Monday at 5 p.m. ET on the eve of Opening Night.
...that leaves eight teams with some tough decisions to make before the roster cutdown buzzer. Here's a quick breakdown:
Philadelphia 76ers: The Sixers still sported the training-camp maximum of 20 players on their roster as of Sunday night and thus face a whopping five cuts. Expect them to come from the following seven names: Furkan Aldemir, Pierre Jackson, Jordan McRae, T.J. McConnell, J.P. Tokoto, Scottie Wilbekin and Christian Wood.
You can read Marc's whole post here, which could be useful when evaluating other cuts (h/t: GMIB)
Additionally, the Sixers are reportedly contemplating claiming Ish Smith off waivers (and preventing him from signing with the New Orleans Pelicans), which would require at a minimum a sixth cut.
By our estimation, the list above is about complete. The Sixers could choose to keep both Wood and Aldemir and cut Carl Landry, but for the cost of cutting Landry over the next two years he appears to be safe. We'll find out soon enough.
